Honestly, the most important bit is to put more core content into the base game, which sounds like it’s happening, and then when you do introduce DLC, do so in ways that doesn’t splinter the playerbase by segmenting it into groups that are too small to even fill the new modes or maps. Other than those options, or some combination of them, I really have no idea what EA has planned. Again, this would be a massive change, and we really have never seen anything like this in the shooter space, but hey, who knows. Some weird subscription thing – The final idea I can conceive is one that involves making Battlefront some sort of subscription-based offering where the base game costs almost nothing and players instead pay $10 for access to all the content the game produces forever.
It could work, but I would be amazed if EA went fully down this path. Fans have loved how Titanfall 2 has done this from the start, although the difference is that TF2 hasn’t been a sales blockbuster, so it’s doing this to encourage more people to pick up the game as it has greater “value.” And while I would argue that Titanfall 2 is great and so is this free DLC idea which never segments the playerbase, it would be way more risky for a game that is going to be a big hit like Battlefront to do the same thing and forgo millions in season pass/paid DLC revenue. The full Titanfall 2 – This would be the ideal solution for players, where perhaps EA decides to make all substantive DLC free, maps, modes heroes, while instead selling in-game cosmetics as aftermarket content.
